Finally made the plunge...
Hi all... long time computer user... from my first TRS-80 Model 1 through DOS, and Windows from 3.1 through to Windows 7.
I'm the IT Infrastructure Tech for a major utility in Canada, and have worked for IBM, government departments, and through ALL that, I've NEVER had the opportunity to work in Linux. But always wanted to.
I have used Unix in an incredibly minor way, and have tried to learn Linux commands, but never had a Linux system to try them on.
I rebuilt a laptop for the sole purpose of FINALLY making the break! And with a copy of Ubuntu 9.10 so freshly burnt you can almost smell it, I've finally gotten around to doing what I meant to do YEARS ago!
And GAWD does it feel good!
It went far smoother than I ever imagined it would, and even my girlfriend is jealous that the desktop is so much nicer looking than her OS/Bill unit... I might make her a convert yet! LOL!!!
Looking forward to talking to you all, and I apologise in advance for my many newb questions...
Cheers
