Evening, all....

Hello, everyone.

Just introducing myself. I'm a long-term user of these boxes of 'black magic'; started back in the late 70's, right after leaving school. Never looked back since.

Most of that time was CP/M, then DOS, then Windows for decades. Quit Redmond's clutches back in 2014, when XP went EOL, and started out with Linux. Spent nine months or so with Ubuntu, then switched to Puppy Linux.....where I've been quite happy ever since.

I've been 'lurking' for a while, off & on, and noticed that some of the answers to Puppy queries are occasionally somewhat wide of the mark! It's understandable (and forgivable), since, even by Linux standards, Puppy's a wee bit on the 'odd' side..!

Hopefully, I can help out with some of these; I've noticed the LQ crew do like to try and give 'quality' answers, where possible. I read the 'sticky'.....and can only apologise for the behaviour of some Puppians in the past. The Puppy Forums exist in a state of happy, anarchic chaos, yet, for all that, I wouldn't want it any other way. They're a good bunch, really; their hearts are in the right place, despite appearances to the contrary.

Anyway, that's enough about me. I shall be mostly in the Puppy sub-forum when I'm here, and shall be in & out quite regularly. I belong to several other forums, and try to apportion my time equally between them.....

Mike.

Hi Mike_Walsh and welcome to lQ! :)

Looking forward to your aid in the Puppy forums. I don't spend much of anytime there myself, but still anyone willing to help with quality answers is always welcome. :)

Hi, rtmistler.

Oh, I fully intend to help out where I'm able to. Like I said, Pup's considered 'odd' by the vast majority of long-term Linux users.....particularly with regard to the 'running as root' thing! (Which is mainly because of the fact it was never intended to be a multi-user system in the first place.)

Here's Barry K's thoughts on the matter:-

Hiya, darry!

Fancy seeing you here. I did wonder what had happened to you; you dropped out of sight all of a sudden, like. I used to enjoy your observations in the 'Other distros' sub-forum...

Small world, small world. How's life treating ya?

Mike. :)

I'm good Mike. Using Devuan since Debian went Systemd.

For a long time I was running LinuxBBQ after I left the Puppy scene and then that lead to Devuan and Refracta.

Anyway I'm well nice to see you hear.

Darren:)

Hello Mike_Walsh & a big WELCOME to LQ! (I see you are already helping with answering! COOL!)

I wanted to send you an email (I saw your 'can't PM (til 150)' thread), but can't:(
I -think- (with <150posts, but I'm not sure!) you can EditOptions and select:

It'd be about my OLD (but don't 'necropost' it awake!) thread here. (from when I was 'n00b@LQ'; I still would like to figure out how to install strace, to debug switch_root using *that* puppy .iso!) Btw, I wonder whether VBox (as/on host) can run on *your* puppies[?]
