Hi all...

I have been messing with Linux for a few years but not in a serious way... This time I aim to dump windows all together and I will be needing some help to get to grips with my new OS.....

I am sure this site is going to be a big help :)

Hi there TheMaxPower!

Welcome to the forums ;). I hope you enjoy this forum as much as I do. I'd like to give some tips for Fedora and Linux in general if you don't mind.

1 - Learn how to use yum or apt-get. Those tools can take care of dependencies easily for you:
http://fedoranews.org/tchung/howto/2...um-intro.shtml

2 - Here are some links about installing programs in Linux, be it from .rpm's or source:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...threadid=45094

3 - If you ever need to find binaries for Fedora, take a look in here:
http://rpm.pbone.net/

4 - If you are a gamer, it's possible to run a lot of Windows games on Linux with Cedega:
www.transgaming.com

there are also a couple of installers for Linux, so you can run a few games natively, such as Neverwinter Nights or Unreal. Here are some:

5 - Security is important. If you are not very familiar with firewall configuration in Linux/command line, here are some scripts:
http://easyfwgen.morizot.net/

6 - Remember to check out LinuxQuestions Wiki. A lot of good stuff is available in there:

Best Regards!
