Linksys WMP54G w/ ndiswrapper
I use Fedora Core 4
Linux v. 2.6.11
Linksys WMP54G
Dlink router WBR-2310
found that ndiswrapper loaded fine; (only with kernel source files present on my system!); however kernel crashes during connection phase.
so...
I upgraded kernel to 2.6.16 (yum kernel update), now I can connect with fewer crashes; however, sometimes I cannot resolve host name... I can ping/traceroute any IP I want, but cannot resolve the host name for the IP. <Update... Fixed by boosting signal from dlink router... still have kernel crashes/freeze... answer?>
ndiswrapper.sourcefourge.net/mediawiki/index.php/Installation
gives great installation instructions for the ndiswrapper (step by step)...
As per the "cannot resolve hostname" problem... I still don't have a perfect answer, but hopefully what i have done will do the trick?
pps. Make sure your kernel is compiled with SMP=disable and PREEMPT= disable (some FC dist's are enabled by default)

ok Still Crashing... Hope to get this off quickly...
I created a small perl script that allows me to see my router much more quickly than wifimanager and found that I only freeze when my dlink is lost, and I have to reconnect.. iwconfig reports off/any... any suggestions?

Linksys driver
I'm an extreme "newbie" when it comes to things like this, so please be kind. I've got a Linksys WPC54G wireless PCMCIA card, and the CD it came with. I cannot, however find any file with an inf extension. Silly question, but could it be buried somewhere inside a .CAB file? If anyone has a driver for this particular card that I can use for this project, I'd really appreciate it if they'd send me a copy or let me know where I can get one.
Thanks....

(Slackware) Instaling Linksys WMP54G with NDISWRAPPER-11
O.K. - first, I'm a real newby to LINUX - haven't touched any flavor of UNIX in almost 20 years...
Background:
I have a 750MHz COMPAQ Ath. computer with 192MB RAM that rather than throw away, I thought I'd learn a little about LINUX on - so I disgarded MS Windows XP and loaded it with RED HAT LINUX 7.2... that much is working. The computer was on my wireless network and has a LINKSYS WMP54G wireless network card.
Problem:
I found barton's post from 2004-11-30 on Installing Linksys WMP54G with NDISWRAPPER-11 but I can't make it work...
1. I know that my O.S. is OLD... but with limited memory, the newer LINUX versions won't run. What version of NDISWRAPPER do I need? I believe my Kernal is version 2.4.7-10
2. What directory should I be in when executing
tar -zxvf ndiswrapper-version-.tar.gz ?
3. When I run "make install" a screen full of errors results, so I can't ever get to step four of the reference article.
Thanks in advance for the assist!
Regards,
CurtisM

Not quite working
I'm having a bit of trouble trying to start my Linksys still I have WMP54GS. I got Ndiswrapper working and -l shows the driver but not the hardware. then when I get to step 9 and type iwconfig wlan0 I get device not found.
if I just do iwconfig I get this:
lo No wireless connection
eth0 No wireless connection
eth1 No wireless connection
eth2 IEEE 802.11b/g ESSID ff/any Nickname "Home"
Mode:Managed Access Point: Invalid
RTS thr ff B Fragment thr ff
Encryption key ff
Link Quality:0/100 Signal level:-256 dBm Noise level:-256 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
Anyone still checking this thread who can help?
Thanks
Lance

Installing Linksys WMP54G with NDISWRAPPER-11
Hello,
I'm wondering:
1. Will this guide work with OpenSuse?
2. where do i get ndiswrapper-0.11.tar.gz?
3. Is (tar -zxvf) the way to install the software pkg? and
4. Is configuring a broadcom 108.11 g wireless adapter is similar?
Thanx for the walk trough. I'll try it as soon as I get home.
