Yeah, sorry I wasn't very specific about that. Re-run the 'configure' script to install the modified version.

I hate to be blunt wapcaplet, but i think its time to release a new tovid. It seems like too many 'mini-bugs' are out which are getting in the way. Not saying to release a gui, maybe just a updated tovid script? 0.18c or a bug-fix release?

Also, there has been quite a bit of activity on the sourceforge download page....looks like many bugs/feature requests , etc are submitted. I wonder how you keep up with these, since now you have three places to look: tovid.dk3, here, and sourceforge. Thats quite a bit of places to look, lol.

Thanks.

You are so right. I have been procrastinating like crazy on this version, and I apologize for the big delay.

Version 0.18 is so different from 0.18b, I'm sure there will be lots of new bugs too. I guess the main thing I'm stalled on is the GUI; I've written new 'makevcd' and 'makedvd' scripts, but they're almost completely untested. I've made quite a few GUI changes too, so I'm not even sure it'll work as well as the last version.

I think I'm just trying to be too much of a perfectionist; I keep forgetting that tovid is still alpha software

Tell ya what: I will try to wrap up some loose ends and make sure the GUI is working. It still won't burn the disc, but at least it'll be something. It definitely won't be this weekend (my wife and I just bought a house, and will be busy painting and stuff) but I hope next week I can devote some time to it, and get it out by next weekend.

Heh, to tell the truth, I really don't (which you can tell, by all the unassigned bugs on sourceforge). I also get at least 5 emails a week about tovid, usually with bug reports and/or feature requests, and I just add them to my to-do list. They are piling up

i see. Nah, i didn't mean that you have to have the final out or something....its just the little things that are popping up which just require an edit to the script. But then again, you're saying that 0.18 is very different from 0.18b, so maybe a simple edit can't do it.

Painting...oh boy. I have done that, and its a back-breaker. Make sure to take a week off after that to recover, lol. Anyhow, thanks for replying and i really don't know what to tell you about how to keep up better with the forums/emails. But i doubt you're the only one...other developers must have the same dilema and would probably give better hints on what they do (besides ignoring it, lol).

hi, i'm a new tovid user. i'm having a problem with tovid producing mpegs that are usually streched by a little bit. the movie i'm trying to burn now has a 1.78 ratio, which doesn't fit into full, wide, or panavision.

it's the same problem that lagartoflojo was having. i didn't read all 44 pages of this thread, but as far as i know, this is the last of the discussion about his problem.

Maybe I could go based on this line, then. That way, the aspect you see when you play the video in mplayer would be preserved. Another solution would be to include an -aspect option, so you could provide a literal value (in case mplayer is wrong). The full/wide/panavision options are still kind of left-overs from before tovid was officially released, so it's probably time to consider another approach.
is there a way to scale tovid's output without distortion? thanks.

Not sure if this helps but 16:9 (widescreen) is == 1.78:1. I would suspect that you could use the widescreen option.

i tried using the widescreen option, but for some reason, the resulting mpeg is a little bit stretched. is there a way to have the aspect ratio calculated before the conversion?

Nice !

Hey there,
Just wanted to let you know that tovid is exactly what I've been looking for a while.
I'm still in the process of making my first DVD, but for once I still feel confident I'll get it done...which certainly wasn't the case with the previous tools/scripts I tried

so Thanks for all the hard work to make it work for others as well ( I use PAL !)

Oh, just for your info ,I had an issue with makemenu, the last step with spumux didn't want to run. it took me a while to realize as all the 2> was sent to dev/null

it complained about an invalid tag name or something and didn't do anything.
I edited the following line to fix it.
<button name="$1" xO=$2" y0="$BTN_YO" x1="$4" y1=$BTN_Y1" />
changed to
<button label="$1" xO=$2" y0="$BTN_YO" x1="$4" y1=$BTN_Y1" />

DVDauthor::spumux, version 0.6.8

The site is still up; it's just the domain name service that went away. This address should work regardless of whether dk3.net is operational:

http://www.createphpbb.com/phpbb/?mforum=tovid

Marcello has also set up a couple other domain names for it:

http://www.tovid.co.nr
http://www.tovid.t2u.com

One of them is ad-supported. For now, you can probably just rely on the createphpbb.com address. Sorry about the confusion

thanks.

Also, thanks for mentioning my name on the website. I just noticed it today, hadn't visited the site in a bit (shame on me).

And that new screenshot looks really nice...tabs...man, everything is tabs nowadays. Not complaining at all.

/edit: After i looked more through the website, it looks like a lot changed. Almost a completly different website. Has many more pics, and explanations. Cool.

Is tovid-batch working in CVS? I tried it, but it seems to give this:

$ tovid-batch -dvd-vcd -full Unbounding.avi Robbery.avi Tip.avi
--------------------------------
tovid-batch
A batch conversion script using tovid
Version 0.18b
Written in 2004 by Eric Pierce
http://tovid.sourceforge.net/
--------------------------------
tovid -dvd-vcd -full "Unbounding.avi" "Unbounding.avi.tovid_encoded"
tovid -dvd-vcd -full "Robbery.avi" "Robbery.avi.tovid_encoded"
tovid -dvd-vcd -full "Tip.avi" "Tip.avi.tovid_encoded"

Then it just ends immediately. Am i doing it wrong?

artik,

thanks for the patch. i'm just getting around to trying it. after applying it, do you use tovid the same as before? is an aspect ratio switch required?
