This article is meant to explain how to troubleshoot hardware in linux, more or less based on how to troubleshoot a soundcard. The person should know how to open a console, and how to run commands as root, and not be afraid to compile the kernel. Compilling the kernel is outside the scope of this document. 1. What is the hardware? You must know, before attempting to troubleshoot your hardware, the name of you hardware. Is it a USB? PCI? These are very important to know! A lot of information can be gained by typing /sbin/lspci and /sbin/lsusb . Make sure your hardware is well pluged in and installed.
