ZyAIR B-101
I have a PCMICA ZyAIR B-101 wlan card and would like to set it up on my laptop. After about a half hour I learned it is based on the prism3 chipset, and I need those drivers???? So basicly how do I get those drivers, and does anyone know the steps, or a place that I can learn how to install this card?
Thanks for any and all help, David |
The B-101 is Prism 2.5, not that it matters much. A re-badged ZComax. I'm using the
orinoco_cs drivers with mineand it all works fine. Those drivers are already included with the kernel. It's been a while, but I think I added this entry to /etc/pcmcia/config: card "IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN/PC Card" manfid 0xd601, 0x0005 bind "orinoco_cs" What distro are you using. That will help give you more specifics if you need them. |
I'm using....
I'm using Red Hat 9. I haven't added anything to the setup (like a new kernel or drivers or anything yet)
Is there any more info you can tell me or is what you said in the last post all I need? Actually I just tried it all out and it works great now! Thanks a lot! If there is anything else I need let me know.. but it is letting me online correctly! Thanks, David |
Great! If only they were all this easy.
One nice feature of the card is the detachable antenna. It's great for seeing who's running wireless in the neighborhood. ZyXEL makes a cheap magnetic base antenna that comes with an adapter to fit your card. With this antenna I can expand the signals I can pick up?
And yep, thanks for people helping on problems like this! Makes life much easier.. Thanks, David |
I get at least double the range with the EXT-105 attached and mounted on a metal surface as I do with the standard antenna. (Note: There are two external jacks. Connect to the one on the right as you look at the card from the end with the antenna removed. )
