WUSB54GC + WPA2 = Resource hog?

Hi folks, hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this situation for me.

I'm using a WUSB54GC on my desktop to connect to the WLAN. If I set up WPA2 and try to download anything, my CPU usage jumps to 100%, download maxes out at about 100kb/s and it gets to the point that my music starts skipping. However, if I leave the router open (no security), then I can download stuff up to 900kb/s, CPU usage stays the same.

I'm running 64 bit Ubuntu 8.04.1 on kernel 2.6.24.

Any ideas?

I've got a temporary solution... I set up my WRT160N running DD-WRT as a wireless bridge to the router upstairs. Not the ideal solution, but at least I can still keep my network closed without bogging down my desktop.

Strange... maybe checkout top (top -ic) to see what program is taking up the most CPU. This should help narrow down the problem.
