WUSB54G - Unable to connect to wireless network.

I am currently unable to connect to my local wireless network using my WUSB54G card. It is a Linksys-usb wireless adapter. I am currently running kubuntu 7.10 with a 32bit AMD processor.

My system detects the card and I can view all the wireless networks in range using KDE's wireless network manager. When attempting to connect to my network it asked for my wpa key. It will not accept my key. I have checked my spelling and checked the router (Linksys WRT54GL with DD-WRT firmware upgrade) to ensure that the settings match.

Initially assuming that this was an encryption issue, I temporarily disabled encryption to make sure it would connect to my network when it was not secured. I was unable to connect with a simple error of "unable to connect". All of my neighbors have secured networks, so I am unable to attempt this on a separate router.

Being that I am able to view all of the wireless networks in range, I would be led to believe that my card is working and that this might be an issue on the software/config end.

My laptop, currently running the same Kubuntu release is able to connect to my wireless router with no issues.

Any suggestions?

I've had the same problem with the buntus. What chipset is it? Ralink and buntu do not seem to mix so well. My Ralink 2500 linux driver will not work with wpa. The only way was to blacklist the linux drivers and use a windows driver with ndiswrapper. Once I switched to ndiswrapper wpa worked swell.

Because you cannot connect at all, check to see what drivers are available, what is being used, and what is already blacklisted. I never looked into the buntu problem too much when the linux drivers always worked well (without encryption) on other distros.

lets see what

ifconfig

outputs back but sound like u have no DNS address to access the internet on this system. after the output look for bcast in the top top of the output see if there is a address. I am guess you have dhcp from you ISP might even try to shut down the system and reboot this sometimes will fix a connection problem. Try the oth key WEP see if this will work

make sure you are using the right wpa key, If you typed in the second Key number and you have the router set to use the first hex number than it will not work with the other hex numbers.

Are you trying to connect when the adapter is plugged in through a hub? If so, disconnect the hub and connect directly to the usb port on the system board. Sometimes issues arise going through a hub. Make sure you're trying multiple ports too.

edit: It appears this post is a bit dated (OP was using Dapper), but it might be helpful. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=276494
