WPA Wireless Config

Hi Everyone,

I'm putzing with RH9.0 and trying to re-attach it to the new Wireless-G AP (no I am not tryinng to use a G card on the notebook... ).

The new complication in the configuration to work with WPA. I've looked all over the place and the closest I've come is a PEAP thread from a RADIUS server software vendor from AU. Although I could have run RADIUS auth for the Linksys AP I chose to use the more simplistic Pre-Shared key. It seems to work well enough on the Wind0ze side but know the older Linksys PC-Card B doesn't bind to the AP. (yes the AP allows both types G and B ).

Anyone out there started to dabble with this who wants to share notes?

I've started to work with WPA on my notebook and I got it working last night but its still in the works.
Check out Linuxant.com. It uses windows drivers and allows you to connect to your network. As for WPA they have a .tar.gz file for that but no instructions to get WPA workin. I got WPA TKIP working last night but its giving me problems now so I"m not sure whats going on.
Just thought I'd give you a point in the right direction.

Thanks for the heads up dude!

I've actually been cheating on this one... I ended up installing VM Ware on my notebook and now I run my linux sessions through a Virtual Machine... Thus I get a generic NIC assigned that is mapped by VM to the actual Wireless NIC.

I've found that this is an awesome way to do it because It doesn't matter which NIC connections I use I just map the correct one to the Linux/UNIX VM and I don't have any reconfig at the hosted OS!

I'll check into that link though as I do want to eventually run the inverse of the setup I have now... Linux main OS and Windows hosted through a VM on Linux.

Hi, I'm tryng to do same thing and no luck, i have configured my centrino with linuxant drivers, and seem like it's working ok.

I do:
Code:
linux:/etc/sysconfig/network # iwlist wlan0 scanning
wlan0 Scan completed :
          Cell 01 - Address: 00:07:40:A0:A8:A1
                    ESSID:"XARXAPIS"
                    Mode:Managed
                    Frequency:2.462GHz
                    Quality:1/1 Signal level:-50 dBm Noise level:-200 dBm
                    Encryption key:on
                    Bit Rate:1Mb/s
                    Bit Rate:2Mb/s
                    Bit Rate:5.5Mb/s
                    Bit Rate:11Mb/s
                    Extra:bcn_int=100
I know I have TKIP encryption seted up on my BUffalo AIRSTATION, channel 11, Session ID XARXAPIS, and got it working on windows, i know my pass but dont know how to enter with iw tools... Could you give me some advice of the commands of a full setup so I can enter my encrypted wireless network? any good tutorial out there?

THANKS!!!

Hmmm, I doubt there's a tutorial yet.... I think were all breaking new ground at this point.
