Unhappy wpa-psk, ipw2200 on Fedora Core 4 doesn't work

It's almost drive me crazy. I spent a month trying to config my IBM T42 notebook to connect to my AP using WPA-PSK but cannot succeed. Any one can help me please?

My T42 was running on Fedora Core 4 2.6.14-1.1644; ieee80211-1.1.6; ipw2200-1.0.8. It was able to connect to AP using WEP by NetworkManager.

I upgraded kernel to 2.6.14-1.1656
I downloaded ieee80211-1.1.9, ran remove-old, make, make install
I downloaded ipw2200-1.0.10, ran remove-old, make, make install
I downloaded wpa_supplicant-0.4.7, ran make

my wpa_supplicant.conf is:
=============================================
ctrl_interface_group=0
ap_scan=1
fast_reauth=1

ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant

network={
ssid="test"
scan_ssid=1
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
# proto=WPA
# pairwise=TKIP
# group=TKIP
# psk="happynewyear"
psk=bd1293898c146451348a7c9edfd30b472a21c5de8f927706db4dde1602b35c14
}
==============================================

I ran "wpa_supplicant -ieth1 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -B" got:
==============================================

Failed to set encryption.
ioctl[PRISM2_IOCTL_HOSTAPD]: Operation not supported

I can't help you with your post other than to confirm having the exact same problem with FC4 using ipw2200/wpa-supplicant. I tried this a couple of months ago.

FWIW: While using FC3, I had no problems with ipw2200/wpa-supplicant. Best I can tell, this is some sort of kernel related difference between the distro's.

Question Do you ever successfully run WPA-PSK on FC4?

If anyone can ever successfully run WPA-PSK on FC4 by wpa_supplicant, please let me know. At least give me some confident this is my own issue.

It is possible that you need updated firmware to support your driver.
