Hi, another newb having problems with wireless here.
I'm running the free version of suse 10.1, trying to get my linksys wmp54g card working. the driver it uses under xp is bcmwl5.inf. I can't get it to work from YaST - do i need to use NDISwrapper? i installed it from the disc and tried it earlier:
I've read so many forum entries about wireless problems that it's starting to get confused in my mind - am i barking up the wrong tree with ndiswrapper?
Thanks for the quick response Caeda. I'm having a little trouble finding the NDISwrapper folder. I installed it through the YaST, and i can't find it with beagle. I'm still new to linux and i don't know where these things get put in the file system. Or maybe i'm just an eejit
Do things that get installed by YaST always go to a certain place, or would i be better off removing the package via YaST and downloading and installing ndiswrapper manually?
If your card is new, you probably don't have to use the ndiswrapper. If you have version 3 or 4, you can use the rt2500 driver. If you have version 4.1, you can use the rt61 driver.
Thanks. I'm going to crash out now, but i'll try to find these drivers in the morning. I searched on google for linux drivers for my chipset, to no avail. Are they on YaST, or do i download them and install manually? on a more general note, do all drivers, programs etc. in linux come as source that has to be configured/made/installed?
thanks again for your input,
Olly
edit: I think the chipset on my card is broadcom, not raylink, hence the bcmwl5 driver. i couldn't find a linux driver for the WMP54G, so i'm going to tool about with ndiswrapper some more
I do not use Suse, so I really don't know (I always compile from source), sorry. The installation of the driver is easy, but I'm still trouble shooting my own configuration. What can I say, we're in this together. Visit RayLink's website and try it out. Maybe it will work right off the bat for you at least I'm hoping it does.
