Wlan0: no wireless exentions
I am using slackware 9.1. Please note i have only been using linux for one week and i do have any GUI set apps. I was forced to use Ndiswrapper because of my wireless card. Ndiswrapper -l says the driver is present. But iwconfig give me the error wlan0: no wireless extensions. I have read that this is because the kernel did not have the wireless extensions build into the kernel, (i am using 2.6.5). I am recompiling as i type this so it might work i will replay if it does. Any suggestions?
P.S. This is my first post so i might have left something out
i did recompile my kernal and it didn't work. here are some more specifics.
iwconfig wlan0 mode Managed
Error for wirelss request "Set Mode" (8B06):
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invailid argument
Installed nids drivers:
dmesg (i believe this is the only part relevant to my problem)
ndiswrapper version 0.7 loaded
ndiswrapper adding bcmwl5.sys
wlan0: ndiswrapper ethernet device 00:90:4b:4d:a7 using driver bcmwl5.sys
This is the exact built-in i enable
Device Drivers-Networking support-Wireless LAN (non-hamradio)
the only item enabled in this directory is Wireless LAN Drivers (non-hamradio) & Wireless Exentsions
It is possible i need to compile another built-in/module into the kernel or I am missing a step in the installation of ndiswrapper. Please replay, i thought this would be the easy part after a hard fought battle with my soundcard.
wrong driver dude
Hey dude, are you absolutly shore dat u r using the right driver??? I have also a broadcom 802.`11g card and I had a heck of a time until I realized that I was using the wrong darn driver. Go to a prompt and use lspci
and see what it gives you for a chipset, that's how I found out that I was wrong. Then mae sure that your using and L instaed of a 1 in the driver name cause the font in linux they look almost the same. bcmwL5.inf, haha.
aiht dude, keep in touch and I promise we'll get this working, I wrote this post using ndiswrapper wirelessly, so trust me, it works!!!

Network controller: Broadcom Corporation: Unkown device 4320 (rev 03)
and I i downloaded this driver from the hp website. bcmwL5a. Plus i tested a lot of them from the Broadcom website and this is the only one that worked.
