wlan0 fails at boot up and can only be brought up using iwconfig manually

Hi,

I have a fedora 6 with 2.6.18-1.2798.fc6 kernel and Dlink Airplus DWL-520+ PCI wireless card.

I got it working using ndiswrapper and followed the direction to have it activated at boot up. However, it fails at the boot time, and I can't use sys-network-config (Network Configuration from Administrative menu) to activate it. It fails with the same error message that asks me to check cable at the boot time. I have to use iwconfig manually to configure wireless settings and bring the interface up with ifconfig to make it work correctly..... Ifconfig alone doesn't make it work....none of the wireless settings are configured in that case.

So, I have a feeling that when ifconfig is called, it doesn't run ifup-wireless.....

Anyhow, what can I do/troubleshoot to bring the wlan0 interface up at boot up time?

Thank you so much for your help in advance.

Check the /etc/modprobe.conf file for a line that reads; alias wlan0 ndiswrapper
If it does not exist add it either as root using you choice of text editor or by:

/sbin/ndiswrapper -ma

Check for the file /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-wlan0 and if it does exist insure it reads something like:

TYPE=Wireless
DEVICE=wlan0
HWADDR=
BOOTPROTO=dhcp
IPADDR=
NETMASK=
GATEWAY=<wireless routers IP address here>
DOMAIN=
ONBOOT=yes
ONHOTPLUG=yes
USERCTL=yes
IPV6INIT=no
PEERDNS=yes
ESSID=
CHANNEL=
MODE=
RATE=

When done restart as root the network service: service network restart

.
