Wirless troubles w/fedora linux v

Hey, im a bit new to linux, first thing i am trying to get working is my wirless card, the problem is, i am on a pc, and i have an orinoco silver pcmcia card, its in the computer via a pcmcia to pci adapter, it comes up in linux as something like RL745f or similar, and also has a label to it saying "Yenta_socket" i guess what i need to do is get it to recognize the actual wireless device connected through it, as of now its only detecting the adapter. i am running fedora linux thanks!

> edit, btw it is fedora core 1

I have had the same problem before too. Fedora 1 recognized my orinoco gold card and I was up and running. But I remember RH being testy in the past.
Run system settings, than network. (you should be asked for the root PW). from there it should list your card, and if it isnt working/ wont activate (as you said) check the configuration. remember if you are using wep that the hexidecimal key needs to be entered with 0x infront of it. that might have been an oversight

Try to reconfigure and activate the card again. If that dosent work uninstall it. than shutdown. go turn off wep at your access point/ router (if you can). (the less variables the beter) leave the card in reboot, see if kudzu finds it and installis it on boot, It should Go back to network and try to configure and activate the card. if you still dont have luck try to download diffrent orinoco drivers http://ozlabs.org/people/dgibson/dldwd/ is a great place to look. Put them on a cd then copy them over to the *nix box. Install the drivers, reboot, and see if you can configure and activate the card. Thats the best I can think of right now.

well actually, i havnt even made it that far, it doesnt even have a card available to activate so far, the only thing linux is recognizing is the adapter that i have the card in, and not the actual card, as the card is a laptop card and theres an adapter to have it in a desktop machine...

thanks for your help though, itll prevent some problems i would have had :0)
