Wireless WUSB11 - wlan0 device not found delaying initialization
Hi,
I have windows XP and mandrake 10.1 official installed in my computer, and i'm using a Linksys WUSB11 2.6 wireless card. When i boot in windows, i am able to access the internet without any problem. If i decide to restart the pc and boot using linux, the WUSB11 works properly (wlan0) and i'm able to access internet. If I restart the PC and boot using linux, all works properly. However, if i turn off the computer or unplug the WUSB11 device the next time i turn it on and boot in linux, i've got a an error saying something like this: "wlan0: device not found .. delaying initialization" and i dont have any network access. By the way, I have hotplug enabled and tried disabling it, but it doesn't fix anything. I've realized a way to reconfigure it booting in windows repluging the USB, and then restarting in linux, but this is really anoying and i'm planing to install only linux in a computer lab for a k-12 school because we want to get rid off windows. Please help us to be able to migrate to the linux world... :) This is the output of lsmod when the USB is not detected (wlan0 device not found...) Hi Thoreau, tks for the help...
I disabled ACPI stuff in bios and didnt find any P&P stuff (I've got a Compaq Deskpro ES4000), but still had the same error (wlan 0 seems not to be present, delaying initialization). So i decided to download the at76c503a berlios driver (at76c503a.berlios.de), compile it and reinstall it. I had to add the kernel-source-2.6-2.6.8.1-12mdk to build it and install it. After installing it, i removed the wlan0 interface, and then added it again whith the Control Center GUI, and it detected it properly and worked..yup, i thought the nigthmare was over... However, now i've got the following problem... when i restart the PC (or turn it off, and boot in linux) the wlan0 initialization takes ages, and it either shows an error saying that it enters promisc mode (takes a weird IP address) or it seems to be ok (IP seems to be ok, i cheked it using ifconfgil wlan0), but i dont have any network access in both cases. i'll check the lsmod and dmesg outputs and post them here again... and hope someone can help me. |
I'm not quite sure, but if you said it initialized, beyond that it's a configuration problem.
The distro's that I've had the easiest time with configuring wireless is Xandros 3.x and Suse 9.2. Mandrake, I don't think I've ever gotten wireless to work off the bat. Luckily we aren't in the mandrake forum, so it's ok to slam them. It sounds like your config is static and not able to join the cloud with your wep key. You may want to also check out the routers firmware revision, and upgrade it. |
