I have a Netgear WG311 wireless adapter which uses the acx100/111 chipset. I used Craig's acx100 tutorial to set the card up (could not post a link due to forum rules). It works great, and starts when booted, but the problem is that it fails unexpectedly and I have to restart the computer to get it to work again.

I am using SUSE 9.2. When the system boots, I noticed that it runs the script in the tutorial and sets up the wireless network just fine. Then it tries to set-up the wired connection and fails. After that it tries to set-up wireless networking again and fails this time. Although, when the computer starts, the connection works. This is a home network and I use the Suse box to connect to the Internet/check email and such...

The only error I get is 'failed services at runlevel 5' (network). I can't figure out why it disconnects.

Any help is appreciated.

Okay, for the sake of searching (which I do one helluva lot), the problem was that I used YAST to set-up the card as described in Craig's how-to for SUSE 9.1 (note that I am using 9.2). This was conflicting with the custom firmware from the acx100 group.

So after a clean install, selecting the kernel sources package as well as the gcc related packages, I finally got my WRG311v2 working great. The kernel sources package was to solve a problem with a missing version.h file. In the tutorial, he mentions a hack for the missing wireless.h file, I also had to perform this simple hack. It's been a couple of days now and the card is working great thus far.

While you're installing packages, you might want to select a few others, the most notable one being Firefox.
