5.4 might be a bit TOO old for it
also why not the CURRENT version of 5 -- 5.8 ?
dose RHEL6.2 ( also not free) work it is 5 years newer than the older 5 series
rhel5 came out in 2007 so any newer hardware might NOT be supported
as with any RHEL install you are paying a large amount of cash every year
-- the required 1 yeas std Desktop support contract is $299 USD per year ( server is $799)
so you might want to take advantage of all the perks that the required license gets you
