Question Wireless Problem Kubuntu 9.04


hi!!this is my first post,,i am complete noobs at linux,,want to use it primarily for internet surfing/downloading.I had install kubuntu 9.04 couple of days back.i am struggling to setup wireless nework on my pc,,the adapter used is Linksys WMP54G v4.1(RaLink), i went through many posts on the net itself but couldnt understand a thing,especially the commands,,the access pt is Utstarcom modem/router,i also enter the bssid dns servers,wep key,but nothing,,pls help,,i am fedup of viruses infecting xp,thnax!

Might I suggest that you turn off encryption to begin with until you win the connection war. How far are you getting? type
/sbin/ifconfig and see if your wifi card shows. Once you have that, type
iwlist wlan0 scan and see if you can see your network

ok..i can c my card in lspci as Ralink 2561/2660(RT61) card,and its using rt61pci driver,tried using rt61 drivers from ralink's site,i even replace the firmware file in /lib/firmware,now when i use rt61(the new drivers from ralinks site,my wlan0 interface vanishes and i get a new interface ra0 under ethernet..iwconfig identifies that interface with some more data,wats going on??
