Wireless problem in Fedora Core 1

Hi.

I have troubles trying to use a wireless PCMCIA card (Alvarion Breezenet = Orinoco gold) with Fedora Core 1. I use the drive orinoco_cs, and everything seems to be OK here. I am trying to connect to my university wireless network. Since they use secure connection, I tried to connect using both xsupplicant and a demo version of the Aegis client for linux, It seems that I can see the network. Kwirelessmonitor reports the link quality, the key, essid, and both of the programs say that I am authenticated in the network. But when I try to use dhclient on my wireless device (eth1) nothing happens and I receive the message: "No DHCPOFFERS received. No working leases in persistent database - sleeping."

Do you have any suggestion?
Thank you,
Marius

Hi mionescu,

If it isnt obtaining an IP address via DHCP this means that either it cant hear/contact the DHCP serve and so it cant bring up the interface without an address. So you have two routes to take.
1) Set the IP address yourself.
2) Get an IP address from the server.
This is the point where you contact your uni administrator to get an IP address I think. I feel everything is working fine and that the problem is not at your end, you just need to set the IP address and you'll be good to go.

Regards
Chris

Actually, it seems that the orinoco driver ...

Hi.

Thank you for your reply. I was able to connect uesing dhclient to open wriless connections, but not to encrypted (like the one from my university) ones. After reading more through the postings from xsupplicant and aegis client help, apparently the orinoco driver does not behave well with wep keys. They both want some pathces for the driver.
I hoped that upgrading to Fedora Core 2 will solve the problem but it didn't. I am a newbie when it comes to install drivers. I downloaded orinoco driver from http://www.nongnu.org/orinoco/ (version 0.13e, because the pathces xsupplicant want are for this version of the driver), I extracted the archive, applied the pathces, but when I tried to do make, I get errors. Is this the right way to installthe drivers or am I doing something wrong here?

Thank you,
Marius

Problem solved

Hi.

Thank you again for your reply. I installed the latest version of the orinoco driver (0.15rc2) and now everything works OK.
