Wireless openSuSE 10.2 64 bit

Hello,

I've been currently running a 64 bit suse10.1 system with a linksys Wrt54GL Wireless router. This setup works fine in communicating with windows in a 32 bit setting.

Unfortunately, my computer bit the dust last week, and I've purchased new components and am currently assembling a new 64 bit system as a client to this network, the prior one was 32 bit. From what I've found so far online, there are no wireless 64 bit drivers for d-link cards...Is this true?

I currently plan on installing WinXP Pro 64 bit and SuSE10.2 on this new computer. My main question thus is, will I have a problem running suse (on client, not messing with the suse10.1 system) and connecting to the network? I'm almost certain the answer is "yes", and if so, what can I do, are there any alternatives?

I would be hard to offer advice if you don't include the model of your wireless card.
The output of "sudo /sbin/lspci -v" will tell you the controller chip used in your wireless card. Sometimes, a different revision of the same model will use a different controller. It is the controller that the Linux driver is written for.

If you need to use ndiswrapper, make sure you download a 64bit windows ndis driver. A 32 bit driver won't work. For example, for a broadcom device, use bcmwl564.sys instead of bcmwl5.sys
You may be able to find one looking in the ndiswrapper wiki. Using google, try adding "server 2003" to the search. You may find 64 bit drivers that way. Also double check the manufacturer's website.

After I bought my Amd64 Laptop, I had to wait a few months before I found a 64 bit driver.
