Wireless Network ipw3945 in Ubuntu (laptop HP dv5000)

Hello,

Its my first post in any linux forums. I've recently decided to migrate to Linux and i installed Ubuntu distro on my laptop. Right now i am struggling installing wireless on my laptop, its because i am a newbie, dont know much of the linux commands but i'd love to learn.

In order to fix wireless i googled and found out that i had to install ieee80211 subsystem but thats where i am getting error msgs. when i type "make" it gives me an error msg saying "build" directory does not exist and then it stops.

I've kernel 2.6.17-11-386
Started with Ubuntu 6.06 but then upgraded to 6.10 Edgy
I've also installed the kernel source package 2.4.27-12

I'd appreciate any help
