Wireless internet does not work in Ubuntu
hey..
i am quite new in Linux, so my skills and knowlegde about Linux isn't wide.. yet ;) well.. i have a problem with my wireless networking in Ubuntu.. i have all the drivers installed for my network card, Atheros.. but it can't find any wireless networks in Linux, but in Vista or XP there is a lot.. I have tried everything i can get up to, but nothing works!! when i try to PING, there is no problems.. the last thing i did was this: johnny@johnny-laptop:~$ sudo iwconfig lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions. johnny@johnny-laptop:~$ sudo ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:03:0d:9c:ee:2d inet addr:62.107.97.215 Bcast:62.107.127.255 Mask:255.255.128.0 inet6 addr: fe80::203:dff:fe9c:ee2d/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:42594 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:1336 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:3586145 (3.4 MB) TX bytes:303894 (296.7 KB) Interrupt:251 Base address:0x4000 lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:131118 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:131118 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:9213608 (8.7 MB) TX bytes:9213608 (8.7 MB) johnny@johnny-laptop:~$ --- i can't see what should be wrong, except from "iwconfig".. i really hope you know what i am trying to ask about, and i hope some of you got a solution for me :) cause it is really annoying!!! |

well.. i just found out by Fujitsu siemens support center, THAT my wireless LAN card is INTEL!!! very confusing, cause in the manual it says ATHEROS!
i really don't know what to do!! PLEASE HELP! |
It may be an intel card with an ATHEROS chip. You say you have all the drivers installed for the card. I presume you are talking about native linux drivers. I think you do not have the right driver installed.

now i have tried madwifi, ndiswrapper, ipw,ar5007 drivers, evrything!!! both on the build en network manager and wicd.. NOTHING works!
|
Try this - it worked for me!!
I had endless trouble getting WiFi to work on Ubuntu - finally this post worked, although I tried it several times - I needed to clear out the old drivers first.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=662877 It is important to foollow the procedures very carefully - particularly in checking/unchecking the Hardware Drivers in System Administartion. Good Luck |
