Wireless internet card

I need a wireless card for Linux (using RedHat 8). I want something I could just plug in and it will be detected. What should I get?

LOL for citrus' reply !!

Seriously, get Googling and search for the Linux Hardware compatibility list (there's one at LinuxQuestions me thinks) and have a look. You want a wireless card from a manufacturer that provides Linux drivers.

Cisco Aironet cards work like a charm. However, you might have to downgrade the firmware. And to do that you probably need Windows (at least, that's what I know). When it comes to other manufacturers it's more tricky. Then you have to make sure they use supported chips. Other manufacturers tend to switch chips as often as a movie star changes hairstyle... The only other card I can think about now that for sure works is Orinocco Classic Gold card (from Proxim). If you can get your hands in some old Orinocco cards (when Lucent was making them), they will work as well.
