wireless extension installation

Hi,
I am using redhat linux 8.1 with kernel 2.4.18. When I typed in "iwconfig" in the console, it said "no wirelss installed". I am trying to install a driver "axc100" for my DWL-520+ (D-Link) NIC. It is required to have the wirelss extension installed.
Could anyone let me know where to find the extension I can download and if i need to recompile the kernel to intall it?

i just installed the new 2.6.5 kernel and i forgot to put wireless extension in so you might want to recompile.... this is my 3rd time recompliling in the last 2 days..... arg!!

As long as wireless (non ham radio) is compiled into your kernel (default for most distros) you should be able to install your driver, and then use iwconfig to set wireless settings to the interface (eg wlan0). Have you tried installing the driver yet?

Hi,
I know that wireless extension is a prerequisite for intalling the driver.
How do I know if i have wireless extension in my linux? When i typed in "iwconfig" in the console, the reply was "lo no wireless extension".
