Wireless Connection Disconnects
 

Just wondering if there is a parameter somewhere that needs to be set to stop my wireless connection (wlan0) from shutting down. I'm using a Netgear 311v2 card which uses the acx111 chip set, and the acx100-0.2.0pre8_plus_fixes_43 driver.

When I surf the net it never dies, at least I haven't noticed it. But when I leave for a few hours or come back the next day and open my web browser I get a page not found error. If I open a terminal window and use iwlist wlan0 scan, I can see that I have an access point. I have to use ifconfig wlan0 up to get it to work again. Is this normal? Is there a way to keep wlan0 up longer??

I wasnt aware of an option that kills dead connections however as a work around you may wish to simply run a mail app in the background which keeps your connection alive by checking for mail every few minutes or so.

I use the same wireless card in my desktop... and I think I never had such a problem!

I am not using the acx drivers... I am using ndiswrapper...

I don't know if this is a good alternative... but it's working very well!!

Iwconfig is the solution to this
 

I have searched around to see if this is used by others to resolve this problem but I haven't found it so I'm saying this is what worked for me. I know as soon as I do I'll hear how everyone knew about this already but I don't see evidence that they where shearing. I used this command to set the rate of transfer on my wireless connection & it survives reboot iwconfig wlan0 rate 50M
I think in order to see changes in rate settings after the initial command you have to reboot to get them to take effect but the immediate change is that the connection is now continuous!
