Wireless card won't connect to network

I have just installed my wireless card (Intel Corp. PRO-Wireless 2200 BG) using another forum here, worked fine. I WIRELESSLY (without any hardwire conns either) updated to kernel 2.6.18-1.2849 from kernel 2.6.18-1.2798.

After I rebooted, wireless wasn't working. used:

#chmod 744 /lib/modules/2.6.18-1.2849.fc6/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ipw2200.ko

to rewrite the kernel and now I get this:

Determining IP information for eth1 (my wireless IS eth1)

then the error message:
Determining IP information for eth1... failed; no link present. Check cable?

It recognizes my eth1 as wireless AND as the right card (Intel blah blah blah)

I'm not a n00b, but seeing as I'm not guru either, so help is needed.

Much Appreciation,
Ragnarok

Your wireless card should be wlan0 not eth1 shouldn't it? Eth1 is for cable connection.
