WiFi up issue?

I had a strange thing happen today. Went to iwlist to scan for network, but iwlist could not find active interface. So I did ifconfig wlan0 up and then iwlist was able to locate dev and scan network. I then used iwconfig to setup interface and when i tried dhcpcd to acquire ip address, it could not connect to network? So i tried something off the wall and issued ifconfig wlan0 down and then tried dhcpcd again, this time it connected and grabbed an ip address. Can someone explain what is going on with dhcpcd, is it normally an issue if dhcpcd tries to up an already up interface?

Hello,

You've marked your thread as solved but didn't provide what you found. Apparently you don't have a real problem or at least found a working solution but does this mean you're still looking for an explanation or not? If you've found out for yourself would you mind sharing that info so that others with the same doubt can learn from it? Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Eric

Sorry, using LQ app on android and for some reason only lets me put down solved. And my networking works, but i am still curious if this is normal behavior from dhcpcd.
