wifi manager for gnome?

Can anyone recommend a good (stable) wifi manager front-end for gnome that will show signal strength, ssid, etc? One that could handle WPA would be a great plus!

Cheers!

Not sure about WPA, but here is a good one.

Ooo looks like they introduced WPA support. I'll have to try this out. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

Well this is what the website says:

Security

NetworkManager is designed to be secure, but that does not obsolete standard network security practices. Security must be implemented in each network. NetworkManager currently supports WEP encrypted networks, and support for WPA encryption is planned in the near future.

Perhaps this has since changed, I'm not sure. I only have WEP capable hardware, so I'm a bit information shy when it comes to WPA.

WPA and NetworkManager?

I guess I finally found out why I'm having problems - I have wpa_supplicant running in addition to NetworkManager. Didn't realize that WPA isn't supported by NetworkManager as yet. I hate to give up WPA's enhanced security just to make wireless easier on my wife's laptop. She's always hounding me about how Linux isn't ready for primetime - that Windows "just works". Well, I gotta admit - WiFi and Linux on a laptop for an absolute noob is not exactly a match made in heaven.

Any ideas other than using a wired connection all the time?

What version did you try? Version 0.6.2 seems to indicate that WPA is supported. I checked the change log for 0.6.2 and there are many references to WPA. For example:
"2006-03-27 Robert Love <rml@novell.com>

* gnome/applet/other-network-dialog.c: Do not allow the user to try to
create WPA-EAP Ad-Hoc networks because such an action makes no sense."

I will give it a try tomorrow on my test machine!

I just got wifi-radio, I dont have a link right now.

You have to run it as root (I can't get it working) from the terminal, but it works fine for me!

Network Manager Install Progress

Well, I was pretty naive to think I would just download the Network Manager Source 0.6.2 and compile for my machine... I am running Ubuntu 5.10 with the i686 Kernel. I downloaded the source modules and began my adventure. One depenendcy lead to another, which lead to several others, a spider web in fact... I ended last night at 11pm after 2 hours of library updates, stuck on one circular dependcy (or fatique), with no new Network Manager...

I am debating on whether I wait until Dapper Drake release in June, or give it a whirl once again.

If anyone has successfully built the source and has a good how-to or a list of all the dependencie, that would be great.
