Be very careful to make sure that the chipset on the card is linux compatible. Most of the major manufacturers recently switched to different chipsets, some of which are not linux compatible. One good example of this are the Linksys cards. Some of the older cards are Prism2 based and are linux compatible, however some of the newer versions (of the same card model) are now incompatible or are extremely difficult to get working. Do your research first to make sure, before you buy.

And with a wireless router, I suppose it is more or less standalone, meaning that you don't need any drivers with linux. Just an normal eth interface, right ? I guess my linux box won't know whether it will be talking to a router or another device...
TIA

Correct. Most of the routers use a simple web-based interface that is OS-neutral, though I have to say the web interfaces seem to render pretty crappy in Linux. However, they are functional.
