Wifi connection problems

Hi,

I have just installed Mandrake 10.1 64bit on an Hp Pavillon ZV5410Us, and everything is working perfectly, except my wireless connection.
In fact, I have a BCM94306 802.11g NIC, and when I go to my hardware wizard, I can easily find it recognized.
Eventhough, when I try to create a new connection using that device, it asks me to manually load my module.
Unfortunately, my model is not recognized.
The latest one I found for BCM is the BCM5700.

So, could you please help me set up my connection?????

Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Benaziz Abdeslame

PS: I have a an SSID and a 64bit Key.

Hello!

I think the solution for your problem is in the HCL section :

http://www.linuxquestions.org/hcl/sh...hp?product=810

They use ndiswrapper... try to do the same... if you have any problem... just send put another post here...

See you

Hi,

First of all, thanks for your help.
Eventhough, I did apply everything that was on the post, but when I print my dmesg, it gives me the following error:

ndiswrapper version 1.1rc2 loaded (preempt=no,smp=no)
ndiswrapper (check_nt_hdr:145): Windows driver is not 64-bit; bad magic: 010B
ndiswrapper (load_sys_files:455): unable to prepare driver 'bcmwl5'
ndiswrapper (ndiswrapper_load_driver:92): loadndiswrapper failed (65280); check system log for messages from 'loadndisdriver'

And the iwconfig doesnot show my card, eventhough the ndiswraper says it is present.

It then looks like it has something to do with 64c bit version.

Could you please give me some more hep????

Thanks.

What happens when you do "ndiswrapper -l" ?

benaziz 02-24-2005 07:09 PM

Hi,
atually, it does not bring any error, it seems to be fine:

[root@benlaptop ndiswrapper]# ndiswrapper -l
Installed ndis drivers:
bcmwl5 driver present, hardware present

But it seems to be a problem with the inf file from windows wich is not a 64 bit??

Thanks.

I don't know... exactly.....

But it seems at least until this point!

You don't get a network interface after after to do "modprobe ndiswrapper" and "ndiswrapper -m" ?

iwconfig and ifconfig...

See if this work... otherwise maybe you need to use a new version (or a different version) of the windows driver, or another ndiswrapper...

Try it!

Hi,

I just want to tell you that I succeded in having my wireless connection working, unfortunately when I do boot my system know, as soon as I want to use some internet programs like skype, my hole computer freezes.
This is really strange specially as I am using linux, not windows ;-) !

Do you have any idea why this system does freeze?

Thanks,

Hi, I'm having the same problem. What I think is that you need a 64 bits driver for windows, and install that driver with ndiswrapper. Problem is where to find that driver ? Because windows XP 64 is only at a beta stage or rc stage and manufacturers are not working that hard for making drivers for that OS. Maybe someone could point us out of this problem ? Does anyone know if there is a project on getting 64 bits drivers for windows XP 64 ? And if so, where ?
