why is my wireless working slower on ubuntu than when i use windows?

why is my wireless working slower on ubuntu than when i use windows?
i have just installed ubuntu on my laptop samsung R580.
the wireless connection with windows was OK, but if i use the same wirelesss with ubuntu - it is soo slow that it does not work.
is that a common problem?
Check your wireless model and the correct driver for it. Also in the menu search for 'Additional Drivers' utility which will tell you if you need to install any proprietary drivers on your system.
