Unhappy WG111T Netgear in Gentoo using NDiswrapper

Hi,

I am having trouble getting my Netgear USB Wireless Network Adapter working using ndiswrapper. I am using a 2.6.18-gentoo-r6 as reported from 'uname -v' and a 1.33 version of ndiswrapper as reported from 'ndiswrapper -v'.

The adapter is a WG111T and the vendor/ID reported when using 'lsusb' is 1385:4251. The following extract from the ndiswrapper wiki states that the windows driver from the netgear website is fine.

---------------------------------- Extracted from ndiswrapper wiki ------------------------
Card: NETGEAR WG111T

* Chipset: Atheros USB
* encryption: WPA-PSK (TKIP)
* usbid: 1385:4251
* Driver: Windows driver from Netgear website
* Other: Both athfmwdl.inf and netwg11t.inf installed with ndiswrapper version 1.23 or later as there is a bug in previous versions of ndiswrapper (per the changelog). This bug caused me hours of frustration using ndiswrapper v1.22 (Ubuntu Edgy).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have tried the Windows XP drivers (after extracting them from the setup.exe) obtained from the following link: http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/WG111T.asp although they have a slightly different name to those indicated on the wiki i.e. athwpn.inf and netwpn11.inf respectively. I used the 'ndiswrapper -i <drivername.inf>' to do this and they seem to install fine.

I then 'modprobe ndiswrapper' and get no errors. However when i look in 'dmesg' I only see:

ndiswrapper version 1.33 loaded (preempt=no,smp=yes)

I was expecting to see wifi card and then in 'iwconfig' a wireless extensions being present as indicated by the ndiswrapper wiki.

I confirmed that my device was present and the driver install using 'ndiswrapper -l' which I presume lists and shows the assignment of the driver. Anyway this command reports:

netwg11t: driver installed
device (1385:4251) present

Please, please, please can someone help me I have been struggling to get this working for days and if anyone has had this working please send me the exact driver and i will try that. I just can't figure out why modprobing ndiswrapper reports nothing at all!

Help!

Many Thanks
Nick Ford

Ndiswrapper

I'm not familiar with Gentoo but I did have the same problem with Debian. I spent many hours trying to get it working and all it took was a simple full shutdown and restart to fix the problem. For some reason a network restart or pc reboot didn't work.

Also my netgear usb had different folders containing the drivers, winxp win2000 etc. Try using the *.sys and *.inf files from each folder individually to see if one of them works. Example ndiswrapper -i /path/to/driver/winxp.inf
