Is it just impossible to run a wire? I mean for $100 you could buy everything you'd need assuming you don't have any tools.

It is certainly something I've considered. But 1) I don't know how to put plugs and sockets onto network cable, 2) No matter what route the cable is run laying it would be disruptive, and 3) I have a bad record with DIY.

I understand. It's half of what I do at work everyday so it's always my first reaction to "computer over there" . It's really very simple if you feel like taking it on feel free to ask questions.
