Using Debian as wireless router (Net Gear MA311) but randomly cuts out

I'm running Debian on an old 100 MHz pc that I've been using as a wireless router for about a year and a half with a Net Gear MA311 wireless card. Lately it's been randomly cutting out for no apparent reason. It seems to happen most when I'm using the internet off of a computer it's routing to (through a switch).

I had a friend set this up for me so I know very little about linux networking and even less about wireless networking but here's iwconfig when it works:

lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

Warning: Driver for device eth1 has been compiled with version 15
of Wireless Extension, while this program is using version 16.
Some things may be broken...

eth1 IEEE 802.11-DS ESSID:"the network" Nickname:"Prism I"
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.462GHz Access Point: 00:09:5B:4F:A4:3C
Bit Rate:11Mb/s Tx-Power=15 dBm Sensitivity:1/242700000
Retry min limit:8 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Encryption key:off
Power Management:off
Link Quality:68/1 Signal level:-33 dBm Noise level:-145 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

and here's iwconfig when it doesn't work

lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

eth1 IEEE 802.11-DS Nickname:"Prism I"
Mode:Managed Channel:-160 Tx-Power=15 dBm
RTS thr:off
Encryption key:off

also, when it's not working and I do: ifconfig eth1 down then ifconfig eth1 up and it pauses for a while then gives me this:

SIOCSIFFLAGS: Device or resource busy

Any help would be appreciated. If you need anymore info let me know.

If anyone has any good links for basic Linux networking I'd also appreciate that so maybe I could figure it out on my own ;)

Thanks
