Using 2 network cards (wireless & ethernet) under SuSE 10.0

Hi there,

I just managed to install a Asus WL-107G wireless network card under SuSE 10.0 on my laptop which also has a built in ethernet card. To make the wireless connection work I had to configure it to 'automatic address setup (using DHCP)'. According to the SuSE-help this only works if not both card use DHCP, so I set the ethernet card to static address setup with a random IP-address (which effectively disables it) as I only use the wireless network at home.
However, I want to use the ethernet card to connect to the network at university which only works if I configure it to DHCP address setup (I could also use a wireless connection there but then I have to use different settings for the home network and the university network).
Is there any way of using DHCP dynamic address setup with both cards? Or is the only way out creating a profile for each configuration? According to SuSE help there is a article on this problem in the support database but I just can' find it.
Thanks a lot for your help!

You don't need to enable both cards at boot, which is what you have there. ifdown eth0 if you aren't using the ether. There are management programs for this, like kwifimanager,gnome-netorkmanager, networkmanager, etc. They will run in the side bar tray so you can choose your active connection.

Your configuration does not disable the card. DHCP and static make no difference. All you are doing is confusing the gateway. Only one gateway is allowed out at a time. Only one card can route at a time.
