USB WLAN Card Setup?

I've got ndiswrapper to recognize the hardware and driver for it. (prisma02).

i edited the INF file of another similar driver in order to make it work

but now, my problem is that i dont know how to make FC3 work. ndiswrapper recognizes the card, but in the system log, there is nothing that tells me if the device has been recognized.

i believe that ive tried to bring it up, but it keeps telling me that it is at a different MAC address than expected.

Kernel version: 2.6.9-1.667 w/ ndiswrapper
Distro: Fedora Core 3

Hello Prince Simba,

What happens when you issue the ifconfig and iwconfig commands. Can you post back with the outputs from this? Have you tried setting the ssid using
Code:
iwconfig essid <your ssid here>
and then brought it up again. Make sure your router does not have MAC address filtering enabled to begin with. Are you using any kind of encryption?

Thanks for your reply.

Not having a network connection, I don't have a printer, so it is extremely difficult to paste the exact outputs, but here's the deal:

I was unable to set the SSID because there was "no such device"
I was unable to properly use iwconfig and ifconfig on wlan0 because there was "no such device"

My router doesn't have MAC filtering on and I am using WEP.

So basically, I should've been a bit more clear in my first post. ndiswrapper recognizes the device and that I have the correct drivers, but modprobe ndiswrapper doesn't do anything and basically, the OS does not recognize that the device exists.

However, I do have info for the device in ifcfg-wlan0 and like files in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts

I've just realised I've messed you about - sorry about this. The instruction above should have read
Code:
iwconfig <your interface name> essid <your ssid name>
It says no such device as it doesnt know what device the ssid is being set for. Please accept my apologies.

eh? Thats damn strange. Whats the output after
Code:
ndiswrapper -l
then? You should see both driver and hardware present.
A standard iwconfig command should show you your interfaces and the names you should be providing for configuring wireless.

after ndiswrapper -l it says

Code:
prisma02 driver found, hardware found
I'm not sure, but this could be because I edited the INF file for bcmwl5.sys

i'll see if i can get a copy of the INF file i used to import it into ndiswrapper

edit: i can't get the inf file back into Windows, but i can tell you that it's most likely screwed up. that could be the cause of my problems. but i can't find an INF file for prisma02
