usb wifi and usb hubs

This question isn't any specific problem or example, its more of a general usb questions but will be used on a linux system.

I finally got my usb wifi working on my laptop however my laptop has only 1 usb port. My question is, would my usb wireless adapter still work if I buy a USB hub and plug the hub into the laptop? The usb wifi adapter would be plugged into the hub. Would my distro (PC Linux OS) or any distro for that matter, still be able to recognize the hardware and connect through it if its in the hub?

Hubs work fine for low-power USB items. If you want to connect multiple high-power items to a hub, like external hard drives or DVD burners, it won't work. There wouldn't be enough power available from the one port for the items. A USB wifi pen should be fine though.
