Hi guys, in my university we have an open and not cripted wifi connection (but I had to register my mac address at the ict department of the university).

with windows i use to connect to the network, then, when i open my browser (firefox too), i must accept a certificate and then it automatically redirects to the login page of the network. finally i can access to internet with every application.

with linux wifi connects, recives the ip address i think correctly, but then when i open the browser nothing happens like there's no connection. i also tried to go manually to the login page (that is something like https://1.1.1.1/login) but it didn't work. so maybe it's a gateway problem but i don't know what to do. Of course any other connection i've tried works perfectly.

Is the certificate window a "pop-up" window? This may be blocked as the default in Firefox.

Otherwise, you may want to check with the University's network support to see if there is something Windows-specific about their validation process.

no, it's not a popup. also i use the same firefox profile for both win and linux, and i tried with epiphany too.

the connection works with a mac so i don't think it's windows specific.

My only suggestion is to try connecting to a different network with Linux, to verify the basic functionality of the wireless configuration. If that works, it is apparently some issue with the university's validation system and you will need to take it up with them or request documentation on how to connect.

as i said my wifi works with almost any other wireless network i've tried.

i think the autentication system works, otherwise i wouldn't obtain the right ip address by the network...

The authentication system is separate from the DHCP process. All of your IP packets are routed through a proxy server, most likely.

This is commonly done in hotels, airports, etc.

there isn't a way to extract these informations from the windows working connection? im quite scared about the answer that the ICT department could give me if i ask information about make the connection works on linux

Hi,

From the command window in M$ do a 'ipconfig /all' and 'arp -a'. This should provide you with the information.

If you don't understand a command just do a 'arp /h or ipconfig /h'.
