Arrow UMTS running, now I'd need VPN

OK, the UMTS card is working, and now I'd need VPN.

Usually, when being connected by other means than UMTS, I'm using knetworkmanager to establish a VPN connection.
However, when being connected via UMTS, knetworkmanager's shortcut to an existing VPN connection I'd created before is greyed out / deactivated.

Any ideas?

Thanks sincerely

This is on Ubuntu (GNOME). Under System --> Administration --> Network, one can enable the modem configured in wvdial.config. Dialing (connecting via UMTS) works without that, but then knetworkmanager (and the networking tray icon) are aware of this connection, too.

Unfortunately, I'm getting this error (in /var/log/syslog) when trying to establish the VPN connection via knetworkmanager:
NetworkManager: <WARNING>^I nm_vpn_manager_activate_vpn_connection (): nm_vpn_manager_activate_vpn_connection(): no currently active network device, won't activate VPN.

Anyone? Please...

For the record, NetworkManager (GNOME and KDE version) only supports connecting via ETH, not PPP. This feature might be planned for version 0.7.

Is there a How-to on doing this by editing config files / script.
