Question Ubuntu connector Networking say I am connected to AT&t wifi


Hi All,

I new with Linux, I have both windows and mac, I have Ubuntu 9.10 on dual boot on my dell. I am trying to log on to the Internet using a AT&T wifi G3 stick an it tells me I am connecting, but Firefox can not access the web. Can any one help me with this I am lost. Wingman

Hi -

The basic troubleshooting steps go something like this:

1. Run "ifconfig"
<= If you DON'T see your Wireless, then it's a driver issue
If you DO see your Wireless, then it's an IP configuration issue

2. If you see your wireless in "ifconfig", then make sure it's got an IP address
<= If you DON'T see an IP address, then it's a DHCP issue

3. If your wireless has an IP address, then run "netstat -nr" to find your gateway. Make sure you can "ping" your gateway.

4. Finally, run "cat /etc/resolv.conf" to find your DNS server(s).
Make sure you can "ping" these servers.
Try "ping www.google.com" (or any well-known site).
Make sure you get an IP address for that site.
