ubuntu 7.10 dell wireless 1390 miniwlan works but with kinks
I finally got the onboard wireless card to work on my dell inspiron e1705 but had a few problems along the way: First and foremost should i have to remove tzdata to install the bcm43xx-fwcutter and if there is a way around this what is it b/c i think that is why i cant change the time on my desktop. Second I had to completly remove network-manager and install wicd on my computer but to date I ocassionally get an error message that says:
"The NetworkManager applet could not find some required resources. It cannot continue."
then i click ok and thats all there is to it untill the next time it pops up. also one of the dependencies for the fwcutter tool was the lib6 and when i go to install it I get:
"Error: Failed to satisfy all dependencies (broken cache)"
then using synaptic i filtered out the broken dependencies and removed them and the rest of the install goes great also i cannot use wicd to manage my network i still have to do it through administration then selecting network
But my biggest problem is that iv heard that right off of the live cd install that 7.10 has some security issues and if i enable the security repository in synaptic and run it it updates my computer then my wireless quits working i think it might be from updating the kernel but im not sure. If anyone has had this problem before i would appreciate any help that i could get.
