Ubuntu 10.04 won't connect to Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN MiniCard
Hi, I have used OpenSuse linux 64bit now for a few years on my desktop system. I have never had to load any drivers or anything like that. I have a new laptop now and am having trouble with the wireless. I am wanting to run Ubuntu 10.04 64bit on my laptop. I have not been able to get the wireless to work with Suse or Ubuntu. This is the card that is in my laptop.. Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN MiniCard.. Thank You Very much :)

Hi Smerpette, Welcome to LQ. I believe that card has a Broadcom chip, but let's be sure. Please post the output from the following.

You'll need to install the b43-fwcutter package to get the firmware loaded.
Code:
$ sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter Linux Wireless B43 Good luck. ;-) |
Firewall In Ubuntu 10.04
Hello Peacedog.... You helped me with my wireless Internet. I am now needing help with the firewall. I have tried to mess with a few firewall tools like firestarter and shorewall in Ubuntu 10.04. I do not understand any of it. I have also done research and still no concept of understanding on my end.
I am still very used to using OpenSuse. I wanted to try out ubuntu so that I further my knowledge with software. I enjoy using ubuntu and I've the rest of the set up to my liking but I pretty sure that I may need a firewall. If there is not a need for a firewall while using ubuntu please let me know and I will keep the system I am using the way it is currently. |
There is an Ubuntu iptables how to here.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/IptablesHowTo There is firestarter documentation here. http://www.fs-security.com/docs.php If you're behind a router and haven't opened up any additional services you are relatively safe, however, there is no substitute for learning security. Good luck. ;-) |
