It's not perfect, since I haven't been able to access the Internet yet, however the drivers once setup, turn on my card and allow me to access my router configuration page, meaning something is going well. I guess now I just have to play around with the settings a bit.

The only real downside is that it's only a 30 day trial, and at current it doesnt seem as though u can buy the drivers to use. Shame really, would be nice ;O) Hopefully they will become available real soon, and hopefully they will be free :O) but I doubt that :O(
Currently, I am at this same point. I can log into my access point/router but cannot access the internet.

Yup I am writing this post, on SuSe via my Belkin 54g PCMCIA Network card. The problem was is Yast. I simply removed the devices it had detected in the first place, and then allowed it to redetect them. This allowed it to select the new Linuxent drivers for the card and what-do-ya-know, its all working!

Hope hlmiller is still reading this thread!
I have deleted it from my network card configuration in YaST, but I'm wondering if this is the best way to remove it or tell if you somehow removed differently?

Somebody? Very frustrated and really don't know what to do next. Being able to log into my wap just makes it seem like I'm being teased. So close, yet not quite where I need to be.

Sorry for my lack of help recently, Uni is taking up way too much of my time, been fun tho :O)

Anyhow, I'm here to try and help out. I'll talk you all through what I done to get it working (If I can still remember). ;O)

First of all, install the Linuxant Drivers as set out by the instructions on the website. If we all follow those instructions, we have a point to start at...so from here:

Everything is set up and should be working according to the Linuxant people but its not, so lets go through the problems:

1) Is the green light on next to the I/O symbol on the card?

If it's not, then quite simply the card is not on. In turn, this means the driver modules aren't loading for it. I had this problem at first but fixed it using Yast Control Center.

a)

- Open up Yast Control Center under root.
- Go to the Network Devices section
- Double click on the network card option, another window should open

This window will detect all your settings/network card devices etc. When its detected them, it will display a screen showing cards that have not been configured (top white section) and cards that have (bottom gray section).

If you're card is in the white bit, go to part c) otherwise, stick around we have work to do :O)

b)

- Click the change... button
- This will show a list of all configured devices - delete each and every one!
- Click finish.

This will remove all the configuration from all your network cards, including the driver modules loaded for them. The Network Card window will then close, but Yast will stay open.

Now we'll re confgure everything...

c)

- Select the network cards option in Yast again.
- This will show the same window as before, however now the white bit at the top will contain all cards and the bottom gray bit will say "Nothing is Configured"
- Also, in the top window is the "Belkin Network Controller" (yay!)
- Select that with the mouse and click on configure...

All the setting here are related to the pcmcia card. These are different depending on your network, so make sure you get them right. Network device is the name of the device, remember it but dont worry about it. My setup method is DHCP (the router on my network gives out IP addresses so I dont need to worry about them). Host name and name server I have set up to the name of my laptop (the computer with the 54g card in) with domain set to my windows workgroup (that bit isnt important). I've left routing completly empty! :O)

Now for the important bit...

Hardware details will tell you what driver you are using. Mine says that my type is a pcmcia card (yay) and the most important bit, the kernel module name: "bcmwl5driverloader". Before this was set to nothing, which is why it wasnt working. Everything else on this page is blank, other than for a tick in the wireless device box.

Tick that box and click on wireless settings. Set the mode to Managed. Set the ESSID to whatever name you have given to the wireless network, mine is "TheTwoTowers" tehe!

Everything else is left blank. This is because I dont use anything else. I've not set up WEP because I cant be bothered, instead I MAC filter connection (meaning that if ur MAC address isnt on the router list, you're not coming in! hehe!). Click ok on the next two screens to get back to "network address setup" and click Next.

In the grey box at the bottom, the Belkin Network controller should now be there, because its configured :O) Now click finish.

There we go, all done :O) Restart before u try anything :O)

How to check if ur working? Try the following:

iwconfig

-or-

http://localhost:18020/

-or-

www.google.com :O)

d) e) f) g) ... z)For this step, you simply reply o my post telling me what went wrong :O) Then I say, read this FAQ:

https://www.linuxant.com/driverloader/wlan/faq.php#2 from the Linuxant site. This contains a shed load of ways to check ur connection, and a few known problems/solutions.

Then u say but...

And then I say email me (jon.black@hotmail.com) the output of iwconfig and I'll email you back... :O)

If anyone has managed to get the drivers working, I have news rom the Linuxent Website. The driver is no available to buy. Yeah sadly its not free, which is a real shame.

Here's the link:

http://www.linuxant.com/company/press_dldrstore.php

I'm personally reluctant to pay for it, since I expect, once people start using this card more, that someone will create "free" drivers. What to do eh?

I'm surprised ur finding it so difficult. I went ahead and bought the drivers too. Not the ideal solution but hey, it is cheap and they do work :O)

I've been racking my brains trying to figure out a solution but can't think of anything at the moment. If u are able to access ur router, then the card is working and you should play around with your firewall settings/local settings. One killer is the settings for ur browser - I always miss that one.

Otherwise, why not email Linuxant and ask them to help, I'm sure they'd be glad to since ur a potential customer! In fact, I'm going to email them myself and point them in the direction of this page :O)

Talking A Potential Solution

Hi people. Me again!

I don't want to get too excited but I may have found a solution to the problem of being able to access the router with your wireless card (and DriverLoader drivers) but not being able to access the Internet.

I hope all those concerned are still around looking for answers.

I installed SuSE 9.0 last night via ftp and low and behold, I started having the EXACT same problems as you - I could easily get to my router but the Internet was just a myth.

The solution? I removed all other network devices from configuration using Yast. I have a network card (PCI) in my laptop as well. AS soon as I removed it from Network Devices under Yast, my belkin card suddenly discovered the Internet. Strange huh!

The potential problem. I have just installed a different version of SuSE so this may/may not work for you. I have the most recent download of DriverLoader (for Kernel version 2.4.21-144) so this may make a difference (although you could update your kernel).

Anyhow, that's how my problem was resolved, which is a relief! I only have a short cable and for the past few days have been sitting next to my router on the floor :O(

Thank you so much! I just now read your last message and I am now posting from my laptop, wirelessly, with Suse 9.0! If it weren't for some software my wife needed, Windows wouldn't be on here, but I'll work on that.

Thanks again.

Yay! I'm happy for you! I've found some other problems that exist with using DriverLoader as well, but it depends on the laptop u are using. Seriously tho, if u have problems join the mailing list at linuxant.com, they are really helpful.

Other possible causes are your graphics card taking up the same irq as the pcmcia. There are quite a few conflicts, remember, driverloader is only in its first product release.

GL to the rest of u
Rioch.

At long last, I'm wireless. Yes, this post comes courtesy of my Belkin 54g wireless card.

I'm sure everyone has been asking, "what happened to that guy with the Belkin card..." -- yeah, I'm sure you've been asking. :-)

I haven't had much time to throw at resolving this, so that's why it took so long.

Here's what was required (basically three things):

(1) Download the latest version of Linuant DriverLoader. Currently that is version 1.52. Thanks go to dbtlightning for providing the initial tip for this utility. It works great!

(2) Credit goes to a wonderful tech guru at Linuxant, who sent me this final piece to the puzzle:

[Use] the latest NDIS Windows XP driver from Belkin for Broadcom chipsets.
You can get it from the following link.

http://web.belkin.com/support/downlo...0&lang=1&mode=

When you uncompress the ".exe" file with "unzip", "unrar" or "winzip", the
driver files will be in "program files/Belkin/Belkin 54Mbps Wireless
Utility/Driver".

Before uploading the INF file (bcmwl5.ntf) through the web interface, you
must edit it to add your PCI ID under "[BROADCOM]" near the top.

Since your card's PCI ID is "14e4:4320" and the sub PCI ID is "1799:7010",
you need to add the following line.

---
%BCM430G_DeviceDesc% = BCM43XG, PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4320&SUBSYS_70101799
---

It turns out the drivers I had available on Belkin's supplied CD-ROM which came with the wireless card simply wouldn't work. Too old, I guess.

(3) Use YaST to identify and configure the card. I still had trouble with my YaST setup -- it still wouldn't set the ESSID, Nickname and Channel parameters, so I used iwconfig to set those. Miraculously these settings took. I believe this is because of Linuxant v1.52 -- previous versions wouldn't let me set the channel.

Oddly, after getting this done I could only 'surf' to SuSE's homepage -- nowhere else. After rebooting the laptop everything is now working without a problem.

I use Linuxant driverloader with SuSE 9.1 (Linux www 2.6.4-52-default #1 Wed Apr 7 02:08:30 UTC 2004 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux)
Works fine. Started with SuSE 8.1, then 9.0 and now 9.1. Very good support from Linuxant, and no need to spend more than 20$.
Someway the Linuxant driverloader is linked with the MAC address of the PCMCIA Belkin 54g...It seems it will work for life.
As result of an intensive search for a GPL solution, it seems that there are legal concerns to release source code of drivers, because someway the wifi processors are somekind of programmable radio stations working on o able to work on military frequencies. So the only way to advance with an GPLd set of drivers is by reverse engineering, and it takes effort and much time if you're on a hurry.
So my advise is to use Linuxant driverloader and your Windows dll's thoug it....
Regards
