Suse 10.0 OpenSuse and wireless adapter

loaded Suse 10.0 on my Dell 600m laptop. the wire connection work ok. the wireless card is seen in Yast2 but when doing ifconfig, no wlan0 is showing.

What is next step to get my wireless working?

what is your version of suse?

Hi, look. the GM-OSS version of SuSE only comes with open source software, but some wireless drivers are propietary so, they are not included into this release.
i have an atheros wireless card and is detected by yast but doesn't work. no device ath0 is created.
So i downloaded the GM version, this version comes with these drivers and propietary software like acrobat reader, flash player.... and my wireless works fine.

maybe you need to try with this other version of suse.

bye!

You likely need the firmware for your wireless adapter. What kind of wireless is in your Dell? In my Inspiron 6000 I have the Intel Pro Wireless 2200, the firmware was an installable option during set up. I have the "Eval" "GM" version of suse 10.

Hi,

I'm having a similar problem with OpenSuse. (Inspiron 6000 also). How do I know if I have the correct firmware installed? Where can I download it from? I'm pretty new to Linux so bear with me please

Thanks!

I wouldn't assume that SUSE 10.0 doesn't have all of the necessary drivers already. What's the result of iwlist eth1 scanning (substitute in the wireless interface eth0, eth1,...)? If that reports the network your problems may have to do with the gateway or name server.
