Strange networking problem-or I hate wireless

I have a home network of 2 computers running Slackware. Comp #1 is directly connected to the Linksys router and comp#2 is connected via WUSB11 wireless, USB card. Everything was working until a week ago when my wife came home after a power outage and found comp#2 down (no UPS on this one). On restarting, the card was recognized but I could not connect to the network. I finally figured out this was because dhcpcd had not started. I restarted manually and the network was up and running. Last night I was working on a startup script and I rebooted to see if it would work; this time the network card is seen but no dhcpcd and IT WILL NOT START manually. I enabled the dhcpcd log and I just get messages about "no response to ACK" . So, what is next??? (besides throwing away the wireless card?)

Any suggestions gratefully accepted,

Alan

FWIW, everything worked after yet another reboot. In searching on Google, there were several similar threads about apparent spontaneous failure of dhcpcd.
