SMC 2802Wv2 in Fedora Core 2 using ndiswrapper
 

I just installed Fedora Core 2 and am trying to setup my SMC 2802v2 card. Apparently it uses a chipset not supported yet by prism54 (I bought the card because I thought it would be supported by prism54), so I'm now trying to use ndiswrapper. I've successfully loaded the driver and am able to use iwlist to view the wireless networks and can successfully set my ESSID. It seems as though it is connected to the wireless network. The next step, getting Fedora to recognize the wlan0 device and getting an IP is where I get hung-up. I've tried

ifconfig wlano0 up
and
ifconfig wlan0 192.168.0.10

to no avail. I've even tried using dhclient, which doesn't seem to work. Does anyone know what to do next to get this thing going?

Edit: I ran dmesg and noticed a couple of lines that say "wlan0: no IPv6 routers present" - what does this mean?

I have no solution, but I'm having a similar problem under SuSE 9.1 Pro. I hae the SMC2602W with the ADMTek adm8211 chipset. I can't find the ADM drivers for it (apparently they're not on the ADMTek site anymore), so I was trying ndiswrapper. I used the included version that came with SuSE, and was able to mount (mount is the right word, right?) the driver, and it even detected my wi-fi network's essid with no problems. It just can't seem to get an ip address. Anyone got an idea.

I would like to report that I got my 2802Wv2 working in FC 2 using ndiswrapper. I go through the process of installing the drivers using ndiswrapper and the Windows drivers, then configure the wireless network with iwconfig. I was this far before. I got the network up and running by installing dhcpcd (which doesn't come with FC 2, or I hadn't installed or something) and running "dhcpcd wlan0". It happily got an IP and that was that.
