small packets OK, big ones gets me dropped from wireless network

Hi,
I got some sort of strange problem over here. I can not use wget to get SuSE 10 DVD iso from an ftp server in Germany. If I ever try, then te network goes down, I can not reach it anymore, not even for small packets like email reading or web browsing.. When I restart, it makes it all OK, until I try another big file transfer. This network is a library network in a university and it does allow big files' transfers. I am stuck, I can even write this post and it is quite OK with that. What may be the problem? Can it have smth to do with metwork management such as AdHoc/Managed status? Not mentioning I am a newb

Oh, BTW, KwifiManager can not confirm presence of any networks even though I can now browse web whereas KInternet does well!!??

System:
SuSE Linux 9.2 Pro, kernel:2.6.8-24-default #1 Wed Oct 6 09:16:23 UTC 2004 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
