slow DNS lookups using Novatel V620

I've got the patch applied discussed on this forum quite a bit (increases max packet size to a level that speeds up EVDO to where it belongs):

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=300962

Now I've got another problem - slow DNS lookups through Verizon's network. This does not occur in Windows. Anyone got any ideas?

Hmmm... are you running a caching-nameserver locally? What does your resolv.conf look like? If you try to do a direct lookup against a remote server (ie: dig @SERVER-IP $NAME), is that slow?

No local caching nameserver. I've tried with nscd and without. Here's my resolv.conf:

nameserver 66.174.95.44
nameserver 66.174.92.14

No clue what else it could be, as DNS lookups work fine in Windows. Thanks for the reply...

Hmmm.... What does the entry for 'hosts' in /etc/nsswitch.conf look like?
