slackware 10.0 wireless Netgear MA311 Linksys router how to

FIRST AND FORMOST TAKE OUT REGULAR NETWORK CARDS FROM MACHINE AND REBOOT TO SEE IF WIRELESS CARD AUTO DETECTS AND WORKS. IF NOT THEN FOLLOW THIS TUTORIAL!!!

Linksys router MA311 and Slackware 10.0

First off for Slackware 10.0 users get out CD3 and pop it in. Install the linux-wlan-ng package in "extras" on the CD.

modify your files as follows:
first file:
/etc/wlan/wlan.conf

Scroll down to the bottom of this file and make this change to SSID_wlan0="":

SSID_wlan0=linksys

Your SSID will have to reflect any name you may have changed it to in you router settings, linksys is default.

second file:
/etc/modules.conf

add this line to the text in the file on it's own line

alias wlan0 prism2_usb

third file:
/etc/resolv.conf

below is my exact file however yours will greatly differ becuase of your isp and DNS servers found on your router settings. You get your nameserver #s from your onscreen router settings. Goto the "status" tab and look @ the DNS numbers these numbers are used for the nameserver #'s. The IP address # is found on the same page under IP address. I was thrown off by using the default router IP of 192.168.1.1 found with most Linksys routers by default. The "search" will be your service providers address. In my case it is Adelphia.net

nameserver 68.168.96.2
nameserver 68.168.96.5
ip address 68.171.255.56
search adelphia.net

fourth file:
/etc/rc.d/rc.local

modprobe prism2_usb
wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_ifstate ifstate=enable
wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_autojoin ssid=linksys authtype=opensystem
ifconfig wlan0 192.168.1.105 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 6
route add default gw 192.168.1.1

you will notice I used ip 192.168.1.105 for the wlan0 setting. You can used whatever ip you want just make sure it is not in used by checking the DHCP tab and then the DHCP table. If another machine on your network is using that number it should be listed.

I hope this helps as I could not find any info anywhere even with google for my specific hardware (linksys BEFW11S4 ver 3.0 and MA311 Netgear wireless card)

Moved: This thread is more suitable in Wireless Networking and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.

Howto threads tend to disappear quite quickly. Perhaps you could submit it as an LA:

thanks for the move

**update**

I had to reinstall Slack 10 on my AbitTHII non RAID. However this time around I took out all the wired nic cards and just left the MA311 in. After the install I did not even realize (as I was cruzing the web) I did not have to configure anything for the MA311. So in other words try leaving just the MA311 in your system on the slack install. Or try rebooting system without any other cards installed.
